There are many evocative names for the negative self talk that gets in our way - inner critic, gremlin, the chatterbox, the censor - yet strangely few for the force for good inside us that drowns that voice out. I was pondering this and feeling a little sad that we tend to focus so much on the negative that we can personify it so well where we can't always with the positive. It was this passage from Julia Cameron's book, The Sound of Paper that caused a light bulb moment:
"It is worth thinking of our inner censor as our inner saboteur. If we are bent on the successful accomplishment of our dreams, our censor is bent on keeping us small and dreamless. But we are not small and dreamless. We are large, we are powerful, we are resilient."
Of course. The opposite force to our inner censor has no need of a compelling label because it already has a name of sheer beauty. It is my name, and it is your name. Who we really are and the true identity we have. So next time there is an inner attack, call on the power of your own name and watch your dreams come back into view.
Obvious really.

I am Tim Sundown. FLAME ON!
Magical post Starfish. It's spot on!
Julia's quote remind me of the words from the wonderful Nelson Mandela speech...
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. And as we let our light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we’re liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others”
Move towards the light of love, happiness and belief and away from the dark of fear, worry and doubt.
Shine your light and live your dreams.
YOU CAN FLY!
